Spectrum Mapping Announces Awards
of Several Major Projects
Denver,
Colo. – Wednesday, June 06, 2007 – Spectrum Mapping, LLC announced the awards of several major LIDAR and remote
sensing projects including LIDAR/digital ortho projects in: Tulum Mexico for a major resort and residential development; petroleum
seismic surveys in Pennsylvania; 400 square miles for a wind farm in Colorado; and an environmental impact study for a military
base in Colorado utilizing LIDAR, digital ortho and hyperspectral imagery.
Raul Campos-Marquetti, Senior
Scientist for Spectrum Mapping said “all these projects highlight the increasing demand for Spectrum’s unique
capability to collect LIDAR, digital ortho imagery and, when required, hyperspectral imagery simultaneously.”
“Spectrum’s leading-edge
work with multiple digital data sets (Hyperspectral imagery, digital orthos, and LIDAR) to create “Intelligent Data”
allows the generation of 3-D geospatial information previously unattainable. This “Intelligent” geospatial data
is the result of automated feature extraction and modeling capabilities Spectrum has developed to create features such as
building footprints, 3-D buildings, and materials classification of man-made and natural environments.”
Many
of these processes were developed by Spectrum as a result of two major contracts from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Small
Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program to evaluate automatic feature extraction, classification, LIDAR filtering techniques,
and the capability to digitally extract 3-D earth surface feature information from LIDAR data.
Spectrum also developed the LAS format for LIDAR data that has become the industry standard and adopted by the major
photogrammetric software and LIDAR system providers, US Army Corps of Engineers and The American Society for Photogrammetrists
and Remote Sensing (ASPRS).
